The first is <strong>il pieno<\/strong>, full tank. Most companies hand you the car with a full tank and ask you to return it the same way. If you do not, they refill it for you and charge a service fee on top of the fuel price, which is rarely a good deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second is <strong>la franchigia<\/strong>, the excess or deductible. This is the amount you remain on the hook for if the car is damaged or stolen. The basic insurance comes with a high franchigia (often between one thousand and two thousand euro). You can buy a <em>riduzione franchigia<\/em>, an excess-reduction add-on, that brings the number down to a few hundred euro or to zero.
