For five and up, switch to <em>cinque volte, dieci volte, venti volte<\/em>. So far, predictable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trap is the train ticket. In English you ask for &#8220;a single&#8221; or &#8220;a one-way ticket&#8221;. In Italian you do not ask for <em>un biglietto singolo<\/em>, which sounds odd. You ask for <em>un biglietto di andata<\/em> (&#8220;a going ticket&#8221;), with the round trip being <em>un biglietto di andata e ritorno<\/em>. <em>Singolo<\/em> works in many places where English uses &#8220;single&#8221;, but at the ticket office it is firmly replaced by <em>andata<\/em>. The same applies in many travel contexts: <em>volo di andata<\/em>, <em>tratta di andata<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"traps\">Five traps where English speakers get it wrong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These five mistakes show up in every A2 class when learners start handling the italian doppio triplo set.
