We are going to explain and practice with some examples. Listen to the sound and pronunciation of Italian numbers<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>In Italian, the old saying <em>dare i numeri<\/em>, literally, &#8220;giving the numbers&#8221; means to go crazy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course there&#8217;s nothing as rational as numbers to measure and weigh the reality of things. We are going to study the <em>numeri cardinali, <\/em>Italian&nbsp;numbers (uno due tre etc&#8230;). Listen to the correct pronunciation and repeat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s get started<em>, cominciamo!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-d4b28dea gb-headline-text\"><span style=\"font-family: Oswald, sans-serif; font-size: 30px;\">Da zero a nove &#8211; zero to nine<\/span> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty straight forward, as it happens in every language, Italian numbers one to ten are unique and you need to learn them by heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>0 &#8211; zero<\/li><li>1 &#8211; uno<\/li><li>2 &#8211; due<\/li><li>3 &#8211; tre<\/li><li>4 &#8211; quattro<\/li><li>5 &#8211; cinque<\/li><li>6  &#8211; sei<\/li><li>7 &#8211; sette<\/li><li>8 &#8211; otto<\/li><li>9 &#8211; nove<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/i-numeri-1-1.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-29448cf7 gb-headline-text\"><span style=\"font-family: Oswald, sans-serif; font-size: 30px;\">Da dieci a diciannove &#8211; ten to nineteen<\/span> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Italian numbers ten to nineteen are different. Again, you have to memorise them. They all have the word &#8220;&#8230;dici&#8221; (&#8230;teen) either at the beginning or at the end of the number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Very common mistake, do not confuse 16 and 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>10 &#8211; dieci<\/li><li>11 &#8211; undici<\/li><li>12 &#8211; dodici<\/li><li>13 &#8211; tredici<\/li><li>14 &#8211; quattordici<\/li><li>15 &#8211; quindici<\/li><li>16 &#8211; sedici<\/li><li>17 &#8211; diciassette<\/li><li>18 &#8211; diciotto<\/li><li>19 &#8211; diciannove<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/i-numeri-2.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-bb88bc5f gb-headline-text\"><span style=\"font-family: Oswald, sans-serif; font-size: 30px;\">Da venti a ventinove &#8211; twenty to twenty-nine<\/span> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From now on, Italian numbers up to 100 are predictable. The formula is: <strong>multiple of ten + unit.&nbsp;<\/strong>For example 24 is&nbsp;<strong>venti + quattro = ventiquattro. <\/strong>See the multiples of ten below and apply the rules. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that 1 and 8 combined with multiples of ten, &#8220;eat&#8221; the vowel before &#8212;&gt; ventuno, ventotto; trentuno, trentotto; quarantuno, quarantotto; cinquantuno, cinquantotto and so on (and <strong>not<\/strong> vent<strong>i<\/strong>uno, vent<strong>i<\/strong>otto; trent<strong>a<\/strong>uno, trent<strong>a<\/strong>otto etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>20 &#8211; venti<\/li><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">21 &#8211; ventuno<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>22 &#8211; ventidue<\/li><li>23 &#8211; ventitr\u00e9<\/li><li>24 &#8211; ventiquattro<\/li><li>25 &#8211; venticinque<\/li><li>26 &#8211; ventisei<\/li><li>27 &#8211; ventisette<\/li><li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">28 &#8211; ventotto<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>29 &#8211; ventinove<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/i-numeri-3.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-9f394fb0 gb-headline-text\"><span style=\"font-family: Oswald, sans-serif; font-size: 30px;\">Multipli di dieci &#8211; Multiples of ten<\/span> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Get rid of the last vowel and add a suffix. So we have v<strong>enti<\/strong>, tr<strong>enta, <\/strong>and then quar<strong>anta, <\/strong>cinqu<strong>anta &#8230;anta. <\/strong>When someone turns 40 years old, you can make fun of them saying &#8220;welcome to the &#8230;anta&#8221;, <em>benvenuto\/a negli &#8220;&#8230;anta&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>20 &#8211; venti<\/li><li>30 &#8211; trenta<\/li><li>40 &#8211; quar<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>50 &#8211; cinqu<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>60 &#8211; sess<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>70 &#8211; sett<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>80 &#8211; ott<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>90 &#8211; nov<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anta<\/span><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/i-numeri-4.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-03f150b5 gb-headline-text\">Da cento in poi &#8211; Over a hundred<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One hundred is &#8220;cento&#8221;, not hard to remember if you are an English speaker (century, cent etc&#8230;). We don&#8217;t say &#8220;un cento&#8221;, but just &#8220;cento&#8221;. Then you have 200 duecento, 300 trecento and so on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mille is singular, all its multiples are &#8220;&#8211;mila&#8221;. &nbsp;Please note, one billion in Italian is <em>un miliardo. <\/em>In this case, the English <em>billion<\/em> is an exception. In other languages the equivalent translation of <em>miliardo <\/em>is common (French, Spanish, German, Russian&#8230;<em>).<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>100 &#8211; cento<\/li><li>200 &#8211; duecento<\/li><li>1000 &#8211; <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mille<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>2000 &#8211; due<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mila<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>10.000 &#8211; dieci<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mila<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li>100.000 &#8211; centomila<\/li><li>1.000.000 &#8211; un milione<\/li><li>2.000.000 &#8211; due milioni<\/li><li>1.000.000.000 &#8211; un miliardo<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/i-numeri-5.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-d6a05e65 gb-headline-text\">Quanti anni hai? Ho &#8212; anni<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You know enough to put together all the numbers you want. Let&#8217;s start with a simple question. How old are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Differently from English, In Italian you &#8220;have&#8221; years, you are not xx years old. That&#8217;s an interesting way to imagine one&#8217;s age, as if you own the time you have used. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyhow, the correct way to ask someone&#8217;s age is: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Quanti anni hai?
