Italians appreciate when you ask up front for the breakdown (&#8220;preventivo dettagliato&#8221;) rather than a round number. English <em>Dear<\/em> covers everything from a stranger to your grandmother. The conditional is the politeness gear.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trap 3: dottor before a name, not dottore<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The italian honorific <em>dottore<\/em> drops the final -e when followed by a name: <em>Egregio dottor Esposito<\/em>, never <em>dottore Esposito<\/em>. Same with <em>professor<\/em> (not <em>professore<\/em>) and <em>signor<\/em> (not <em>signore<\/em>). The truncation applies in vocative position.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trap 4: Distinti saluti is more formal than Cordiali saluti<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two italian formal email closings differ in temperature, not just register. <em>Distinti saluti<\/em> is the formal-cold version: first contact, official documents, complaints. <em>Cordiali saluti<\/em> is the formal-warm version: ongoing business, repeat correspondence, professional but friendly. Pick by relationship age, not just by formality level.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trap 5: voi for organisations, Lei for individuals<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An italian formal email picks one address form and sticks with it.
