English speakers easily confuse prendere, guidare <\/em>and portare<\/em>, three quite\u00a0different verbs in Italian<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Prendere<\/em>, guidare<\/em> and portare (qualcuno)<\/em> are sometimes mixed up by English speakers when they want to say I pick you up, I drive you, I take you<\/em> somewhere<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can add\u00a0accompagnare<\/em>, because it’s a useful verb that students could and should use more often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The confusion happens because we can’t translate these verbs directly from English into Italian and vice versa<\/em>. Prendere<\/em> and portare<\/em> can both mean\u00a0“to take” depending on the situation. Let’s\u00a0see three simple examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
