If you want to \u00a0express your gratitude, regardless of the social position \u00a0of the person you&#8217;re talking to or situation, <em>grazie<\/em> and <em>prego<\/em> are enough.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you are learning Italian, you should know other ways to say &#8220;thank you&#8221; and &#8220;you are welcome&#8221; because people in Italy use the expressions we are going to see in this post.<\/p>\n<p>We can start with\u00a0<em>ti ringrazio<\/em>\u00a0(= io ringrazio te) and the formal\u00a0<em>la ringrazio<\/em> (= io ringrazio Lei) as &#8220;thank you so much.&#8221;. We can use this structure with different subjects: <em>vi ringrazio, vi ringraziamo, (lui \/ lei) ti ringrazia<\/em> and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Less common and rather obsolete is\u00a0<em>grazie di cuore.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>grazie, grazie mille<\/li>\n<li>ti ringrazio, la ringrazio<\/li>\n<li>(io) vi ringrazio, (noi) vi ringraziamo &#8230; (lui \/ lei) ti ringrazia etc.<\/li>\n<li>grazie di cuore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alternatives to <em>your are welcome<\/em>\u00a0in Italian are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>figurati, si figuri (or &#8220;si immagini&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>ci mancherebbe<\/li>\n<li>non c&#8217;\u00e8 di che<\/li>\n<li>non c&#8217;\u00e8 problema<\/li>\n<li>nessun disturbo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><!--sc-shortcode-cleaner-clean-content-start \n\n\n<div align=\"center\">\n\n[audio mp3=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/prego-02.mp3\" preload=\"auto\"][\/audio]\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"> sc-shortcode-cleaner-clean-content-end--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Figurati (tu)<\/em> and <em>Si figuri (Lei) <\/em>is like &#8220;do not mention it&#8221;. Literally, this\u00a0is the imperative of to imagine, to figure. It means you are welcome, &#8220;you can imagine it was no problem&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Ci mancherebbe<\/em>, conditional of <em>mancarci<\/em>, to lack or to miss, is close to &#8220;it&#8217;s the least I could\u00a0do&#8221;, you are welcome. The &#8220;ci&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/dante-learning.com\/eng\/2016\/09\/italian-idioms-with-pronouns-premium-podcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adds an idiomatic touch to the verb<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both <em>figurati<\/em> and <em>ci mancherebbe<\/em>\u00a0sometimes don&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re welcome but &#8220;don&#8217;t even mention it&#8221; because it&#8217;s &#8220;out of the question&#8221;, impossible.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Figurati se mio fratello mi prester\u00e0 mille euro.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He won&#8217;t lend me money, no way, (can you picture him doing that?).<\/p>\n<p>The translation is not perfect, there is no match with English, You should simply look at the context.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Non c&#8217;\u00e8 di che (ringraziare)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>very polite form to mean &#8220;there&#8217;s no reason to say thanks&#8221;.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Non c&#8217;\u00e8 problema<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>is not as common as &#8220;no problem&#8221; in English, but we use it sometimes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Nessun disturbo<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>is the answer to &#8220;Scusa (scusi) per il disturbo&#8221;, sorry for the hassle.
