If you are familiar with the tenses of the indicativo, it&#8217;s time to learn the <em>congiuntivo presente<\/em> and express a wider range of concepts and situations in Italian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can simplify and say that whereas&nbsp;the <strong>indicativo<\/strong> is the mood of reality, the <strong>congiuntivo <\/strong>is the mood of possibility, uncertainty and opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four tenses of the <em>congiuntivo<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>presente &nbsp;<\/em><\/li><li><em>passato<\/em><\/li><li><em>imperfetto <\/em><\/li><li><em>trapassato<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we are going to study the <em>congiuntivo&nbsp;presente of essere and avere<\/em>. This will come in handy when we&#8217;ll approach the congiuntivo passato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"look-at-the-sentence\">Look at the sentence<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Penso <strong>che Fabio sia<\/strong> un bravo ragazzo.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-align: center;\">Instead of<\/span><em style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp; <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Penso che Fabio <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>\u00e8<\/strong><\/span> un bravo ragazzo&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we need to use the congiuntivo <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em>sia<\/em><\/strong><\/span><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I&#8217;m expressing my personal opinion about Fabio, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not a fact;<\/span><\/li><li>I think <em>now<\/em>&nbsp;that Fabio <em>is<\/em>&nbsp;a good guy, so I have to use the <em>presente<\/em> tense.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-congiuntivo-needs\">The congiuntivo needs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>two sentences (clauses) connected&nbsp;with the word <em>che&nbsp;<\/em>(that). <em>Io penso<\/em> is the main sentence, <em>che Fabio sia&#8230;<\/em>is a dependent clause.<\/li><li>two different subjects (io &amp; Fabio in this case)<\/li><li>a verb expressing a thought, emotion, opinion, desire&#8230; not a fact<\/li><li>the <em>congiuntivo<\/em>&nbsp;is always in a dependent clause<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some exceptions to these four &#8220;pillars&#8221; of the <em>congiuntivo<\/em>, but in most cases we need <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>all<\/strong><\/span> these conditions for the <em>congiuntivo<\/em> to be necessary. Please keep this first blog as a reference. The same rules are valid for the next tenses we are going to study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"we-use-the-congiuntivo-for-expressing\"><del><\/del>We use the congiuntivo for expressing:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>un&#8217;opinione (opinion)<\/strong> &#8211; Pensano che Luigi abbia un buon cuore.<\/li><li><strong>un&#8217;incertezza (uncertainty)<\/strong> &#8211; Non sappiamo se i tuoi amici siano delle persone oneste.<\/li><li><strong>una speranza (hope)&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; Speriamo che tu abbia il tempo di venire alla festa.<\/li><li><strong>una volont\u00e0 (will)<\/strong> &#8211; Voglio che il lavoro sia pronto alle 10 di domani.<\/li><li><strong>un timore (worry)<\/strong> &#8211;
