Are there any prerequisites for this course?
The prerequisites are flexible but recommended to help you succeed at the B1 level. While we will review key concepts from A2, it’s helpful if you’re comfortable with some pre- intermediate Italian structures. If you’re still finding some A2 material challenging, it might be a good idea to revisit the “Saltelliamo! A2” course before moving on.
Ideally, the following are the prerequisites for the B1 course:
- Confident use of passato prossimo and imperfetto: You should be able to comfortably narrate past events, differentiate between completed actions and ongoing states, and use appropriate time expressions like “ieri,” “mentre,” and “già.”
- Ability to express future intentions: You should be able to talk about future plans using the futuro semplice, including time expressions like “domani,” “la prossima settimana,” and “tra un mese.”
- Giving advice and making suggestions: You should know how to use the condizionale presente to give advice, make polite requests, and express preferences.
- Expressing opinions and making comparisons: You should be comfortable using comparatives and superlatives to express opinions, compare people, places, or things, and articulate preferences.
- Using reflexive verbs: You should be able to describe daily health and wellness routines, use reflexive verbs in both present and past tenses, and manage personal care discussions.
- Navigating conversations with object pronouns: You should be able to use direct and indirect object pronouns in everyday conversations, including making purchases, ordering food, and handling basic transactions.
- Basic command of imperative mood: You should be able to give instructions and make polite requests using the imperative mood, in both formal and informal contexts.
