Are there any prerequisites ?
Prerequisites are not very strict, as we will review some of the basic structures introduced in level A0. However, if you find it difficult to understand simple and common sentences in the present tense or very basic vocabulary (e.g., days of the week), you may consider joining the A0 course: Primi Passi.
Ideally, the following are the prerequisites of the course:
- Basic greetings and introductions: You should be able to say hello, introduce yourself, and ask simple questions like “Come ti chiami?” (What’s your name?) and “Come stai?” (How are you?), “Che giorno è oggi?” (What day is today?) etc,
- Numbers and simple time expressions: You should know numbers from 0 to 100 and be able to tell time in Italian. This includes days of the week, months, and basic expressions like “oggi” (today), “domani” (tomorrow), and “ieri” (yesterday).
- Basic vocabulary for everyday objects and situations: You should have a foundational vocabulary covering simple topics such as family members, very common objects, colours, and basic adjectives to describe things and people.
- Simple present tense of regular verbs: You will be already familiar with the conjugation of io, tu, lui / lei of regular -are, -ere, and -ire verbs in the present tense, as well as some common irregular verbs like “essere” (to be), “avere” (to have) and “fare” (to do / make).
- Basic sentence structure in Italian: You will know how to form very simple sentences following the subject-verb-object structure and use basic articles and prepositions.
- Elementary listening and speaking skills: You should be able to understand slow, clear speech on some basic topics and respond with simple phrases in common situations.
- Foundational reading and writing abilities: You should be able to read and understand simple texts on familiar topics and write short, simple messages or notes.
